Basel University is a higher educational institution in the city of Basel, the oldest university in Switzerland. University of Zurich is the largest university in Switzerland, which currently provides the education for more than 26,000 students. This university can be referred to the group of "the oldest universities" in Switzerland, as its history dates back to 1525. Though in 1833 the University of Zurich had officially adopted existing form and name, when 3 colleges of Theology, Law and Medicine were united with newly opened Faculty of Philosophy.
