Basel University is a higher educational institution in the city of Basel, the oldest university in Switzerland. The University of Basel was ranked 86th according to the Academic Ranking of Universities (in 2011). The university is also a part of the European University Association, the Utrecht Network, which promotes the internationalization of higher education through the organization of summer schools, student and teacher exchange and mutual awarding of degrees. It is noteworthy that today the University Library is considered to be the largest library in Switzerland, and was founded back in 1622.
