Getting Ready for ÖSD Certificate Exam of A1 level

The German language has always been striking in its clarity and expressiveness, precise structure. It is not easy to master it, but it is possible if you find the right and effective path for yourself, leading to an impeccable understanding of the language, its subtleties, shades and ease of daily use in any circumstances.

A few secrets that hide the keys to master Deutsch successfully:

1) The German language has a clear structure, logical syntax. Therefore, you should not translate from your native language, but from the beginning of your study, think grammatically and lexically correctly, in the original language.

2) Improve your knowledge constantly and regularly. Stay focused.

3) Repeat the learned. Therefore, human memory is selective and requires a constant emphasis on the new and, of course, on that material that has already been studied.

4) As often as possible, immerse yourself in the language sphere - listen to life hacks on Youtube, which only native speakers can share and try to find a talk partner via speaking clubs or skype conversations, in order to combine the theory studied with practice and bring up speaking and listening skills to automatism.

5) Surround yourself with the German language on all around - books, films, songs, idioms, news, and even the phone set up with the German keyboard. High-quality and speedy training with this approach is guaranteed.

6) Use different books for training so, that training is dynamic and interesting.

7) Get a grammar guide, workbook and paper dictionary. Make clear structure for everything, because the Germans love order!

Persistent learning of the German language gives a great chance to take the exam and get the appropriate certificate, which opens up further opportunities.

Taking an exam at any level is much easier if you understand what exactly awaits you at the exam itself.

So, the exam aimed at checking on 4 types of activities, which we will consider in details next. Take level A1, for example, the ÖSD exam. You can choose another exam, but, as a rule, the structures overlap.

1) Srpechen (speaking).

To test this skill, in the exam paper, the student gets 3 subspecies of speaking. These are: introduction, role-playing game and description of the picture. Thus, there is a good opportunity to present your productive work for a certain time right here, in the exam. You should talk smiling.

2) Schreiben (letter).

At this stage of the test, the student is faced with such tasks as: fill out a form, answer an e-mail, write a complaint letter, write a resume, etc. That is, you need to understand that grammar will appear everywhere. Sentences need to be written not complicated, but grammatically constructed correctly. The skill of grammatical correctness is trained by writing similar texts repeatedly.

3) Hörverstehen (listening).

Examiners check in different ways. As an option: 6 pictures are presented. After which 6 texts sound and you need to determine which picture corresponds to which text. Or the message, and the text to listen and afterwards you need to fill in the appropriate spaces. You need to listen carefully and perceive the information not only as a whole, but also taking into account small details: color, shape, quality, time of day or time. Therefore, the listening skills are to be trained with great patience, which will help you get the needed certificate.

4) Leseverstehen (work with text).

Students love this type of activity, because during the study of the language they read so many texts and made their analysis, “that it’s not scary to meet a wolf in the forest”. The most common tasks that happen: pick up ads for suitable vacancies, pick up the correct inscriptions for the pictograms, insert the words presented in the frame into the text, and answer the question in the text.

Now we can summarize all mentioned above. The exam is not difficult if the student is motivated, trains daily his language learning, works hard and develops all 4 types of speech activity, surrounds himself with the German language as much as possible and do his best to achieve the goal - to certify himself and get a chance to get a European education on the basis of the German language.

Good luck everyone!
