Less DetailsThe feature of all public universities in the Federal land of North Rhine-Westphalia is the complete absence of public Studienkollegs (the exception is the Studienkolleg of the University of Bochum, course T). Accordingly, the public universities located in the Federal land of North Rhine-Westphalia do not accept applications for preliminary studies at public Studienkollegs. Application is only possible for a place for undergraduate, graduate or PhD programs.
For the possibility of studying at the University of Bonn, you need to provide proof of knowledge of the German language at C1 level. In case you have reached the B1 level of German, you can join the DSH preparation course.
International students with a residence permit are allowed to officially work without any additional permits if the total number of hours worked during the year does not exceed 120 days for full-time work, or 240 work days for part-time work. 4 working hours per day are counted as part-time working hours. If you have already worked 120 days this year, you must apply for a permit from the Bundesagentur für Arbeit and Ausländeramt to be able to continue working.
After graduating from the University of Bonn, foreign students are allowed to extend their residence permit for another year. This residence permit is valid in the same way as it was earlier during the period of study. You need to notify Ausländerbehörde in advance of your job search decision. It is also important to consider the issue of confirming the appropriate financing for the period of the job search (this can be either self-financing or a blocked account confirmation in a German bank). When looking for a job, it is important to keep in mind that your position and occupation must necessarily correspond to your education.
Bonn University does not have its own dormitory and does not help in any way to solve the problem of finding a place to accomodate. If you are looking for a budget and decent option for a room or apartment, you should contact Studentenwerk. However, in the case of sending an application to Studentenwerk, please note that this student organization will be able to help you, in case you are not more than 30 years old and you have not studied 15 semesters yet. Since the number of students has increased significantly in recent years, such apartments are booked quite quickly. The cost of such apartments is from 184 to 492 euros per month. Students with disabilities are provided with apartments first. There are also certain privileges for students of international English-language programs.
